Tony Newberne 

PATIENT ADVOCATE ACTION COLLECTIVE MEMBER

Tony has been living with high-risk multiple myeloma for over a decade and is a certified personal trainer, dietary manager, and passionate advocate for patients. With a deep commitment to advancing patient support and healthcare equity, Tony has worked with the PAN Foundation in multiple capacities over the past two years. He serves on PAN’s Patient and Family Advisory Council, is a dedicated advocate for increasing diversity in clinical trials—particularly for Black men—and was honored with PAN’s 2024 Advocacy Impact Award at the annual Advocacy Action Summit.

Beyond his work with PAN, Tony is a health coach with the HealthTree Foundation, where he helped launch the HealthTree Charlotte Black Myeloma Community in 2023. He is also an active advocate with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), serving as the North Carolina Advocacy Leader, winning their Mission Pillar Award for Advocacy, and is a candidate for LLS’s Visionary of the Year Charlotte.

Tony’s advocacy extends to collaborations with Patients Rising, the EveryLife Foundation for Rare Diseases, and service on the Board of Directors for Throwing Bones, an organization dedicated to helping cancer patients lead active, healthy lives. He also contributes to The Myeloma Community Advisory Board at UNC School of Nursing, advising Dr. Matthew LeBlanc’s team in their research on improving treatment access equity for multiple myeloma patients.
